The Saarland by Hot Air Balloon La Sarre en montgolfière - Das Saarland aus dem HeißluftballonKlaus BRILL, Rob KIEFFER
|
Where once the chimneys of the steelworks belched smoke into the air and coal-laden barges chugged along the river Saar, Germany’s smallest state has undergone profound change. Abandoned slag heaps have been transformed into rich natural niches, villages are once again blossoming and boasting splendid façades while enchanted walkways lead through the hills of its backcountry. In a bid to capture this metamorphosis of the Saarland – which rightly promotes its “boundless charm” – from a lofty height, author and photographer embarked on a unique voyage: an adventurous outing in a hot air balloon, revealing a so far undiscovered portrait of the Saarland.
Trilingual: English, German, French.
